Climate Action in the Food & Beverage Sector
Climate change has emerged as one of the major challenges of our time. The Food & Beverage sector, along with its upstream Agricultural component, are considered key actors in providing positive solutions to reduce carbon emissions and enhance production system resilience throughout the value chain. As one of the global leaders in the food and beverage industry and the largest dairy company, the Lactalis Group believes that its size is a strength that offers opportunities to combat climate change.
By embracing the Lactalis Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy to promote sustainability and environmentally friendly behaviors, LNS aims to reduce its environmental impact. Aligned with the United Nations Global Compact, in which the group actively participates, the Lactalis Group’s CSR policy and commitments are divided and organized into three different axes:

Driving positive change for a low-emission future
- Reduction of at least 25% of our scope 1 and scope 2 emissions by 2025.
- Reduction of at least 50% of our scope 1 and scope 2 emissions by 2033.
- Carbon Net Zero by 2050 (scopes 1, 2 and 3).
Promoting Circular Economy & Responsible Packaging
At Lactalis, the right packaging takes care of our dairy products, our consumers, and the Environment.
- 100% of current and future packaging solutions for pillar products and all future packaging solutions for product innovations will be screened using an eco-design tool by 2025.
- At least 30% of recycled material in our packaging at consolidated Group level.
- We aim for 100% recyclable packaging by design in 2025.
- We aim for 100% recyclable packaging in practice in 2033 for countries with an Extended Producer Responsibility scheme (EPR).
- We aim to eliminate PVC from our packaging by 2025.
- 100% of packaging will bear waste management information by 2025.
Improving Animal Welfare
At Lactalis, contributing to animal welfare is not only our responsibility, but also a cornerstone for the sustainability of the company’s activities.
- 100% of our dairy technicians will be trained on animal welfare by 2023.
- 100% of our direct milk volumes will have on-farm assessment on animal welfare by 2025 (by 2026 in Brazil).
- Elimination of routine tail docking by 2022.
- Elimination of routine dehorning by 2025.
- Stop buying eggs and egg products from caged systems at Group level by 2025.
In accordance with these commitments, LNS’s commitments are based on the following pillars:

Lactalis HEALTH NUTRITION commitments
Reducing our carbon footprint step by step, with:
- Photovoltaic panel parc in 2025
- Milk collected exclusively from farms situated no further than 50km from the plant.
- ECO grazing – the ecological and natural maintenance of the green spaces through grazing (low animal density) by donkeys and sheep.
Managing our environmental impact every day, by:
- A performant energy management system acknowledged by the certificate ISO5001.
- Improving our environmental performance in line with our ISO 14001 commitments, -25% non-recyclable industrial waste in 2023 vs 2022
- Ensuring an efficient water management: reduce consumption, re-use, ensure integrity of infrastructure
- Becoming certified in the OEPV Program Pro-Cycling Employer by encouraging employees to cycle to work.
Heading toward more Circular packaging:
- With 100% recyclable packaging : metal tins for infant nutrition
- By promoting Eco-design and responsible choices allowing us to reduce the weight of our packaging
